This oral history project was undertaken to commemorate the 1991 Centennial of the Forest Reserves Act. Interviews with Forest Service personnel focus on conservation history in California and Forest Service contributions to that history. The interviews seek to determine how conservation was defined by the Forest Service at different points in time; how past events impacted current Forest Service issues, and what specific events or programs illustrated a larger perspective or trend in conservation history.
